This year marks 225 years since the Shakers landed in Canterbury and started a religious community. Now a National Historic Landmark, with 64 buildings on the original 694 acres, visitors get a true sense of how the Shakers lived and worked the land.
To celebrate the day, Canterbury residents were invited to share in cake and root beer floats, and free self guided tours. The attached story includes a series of images from inside many of the buildings including scenes of rooms that have not been open to the public in decades.
