Why I always have a camera with me

I always have a camera with me.  In a previous post “Is the iPhone as good as a Pro Level DSLR” I talked about this difference between capturing the moment with professional gear versus an iPhone. In this case, I was glad I had my phone with me.

The nocturnal Polyphemus Moth (Antheraea polyphemus) is a large moth, about six inches wide, and is one of the most popular moths in the Northeast.

The nocturnal Polyphemus Moth (Antheraea polyphemus) is a large moth, about six inches wide, and is one of the most popular moths in the Northeast. It gets its name from the Greek myth of Cyclops because of the two large spots on its wings that look like eyes.

I had just stepped out of my vehicle and saw movement on the ground.  Curious to what it could be, I walked over and saw a huge moth, as big as a bat! It was a Polyphemus Moth.  I captured a still shot and a short video with my iphone.

Nature is around us, all the time.  And I always have a camera with me, ready to capture that moment. Will I create award winning images with my iPhone? Probably not, but nature photography isn’t always about getting the best shot (unless, of course you are working for a client, then it’s always about getting the best shot).
